Indiana Jones and the Temple of the Forbidden Eye at the Adventureland section of Disneyland, has been a crowd pleaser since it opened in 1995.  It is also a quite controversial rides, due to the fact that is is one of the first thrilling dark rides, meaning an indoor, non roller coaster ride that submerses riders into a story.  The story of this ride takes place in 1936, and is shown through a series of news reels throughout the line.  The Temple of the Forbidden eye has been excavated after almost 2000 year of being covered by the earth.  The idol that guards the temple, named Mara, offers anyone who excavated it one of 3 gifts, riches, eternal life, or the ability to see the future.  The only catch is that you cannot gaze into the eyes of Mara, due to the fact that it will kill you.  It is explained that even though everyone is very excited about this, he has lost much of his funding, so a returning character from the Indy films named Sallah, has been giving guided tours for money.  Many tourists return with great gifts, but other don’t return at all.  About 1 week ago, Indy ventured into the temple to find them and has yet to return.  Sallah continues to conduct tours to find Dr. Jones.  Riders board their vehicle, which looks like a military transport SUV and, after being told that the brakes need a bit of am adjustment, they are off.  After passing by a mirror, that actually houses the transfer track, the rider drop into a room known as the chamber of destiny.  The room appears to have 3 doors, although in reality, it houses 5, and only 1 that you can go through.  This can be done by moving walls to make it appear like riders go through a different door every ride.  Once your door is chosen, it illuminates, and a voice assumed to be Mara exclaims one of these three: “You have chosen wisely. This path leads to timeless youth and beauty.” “You seek the treasure of Mara. Glittering gold. It is yours.” or “You seek the future. I will lift the curtain of time. It is your destiny.”  If you go through the path of youth, the door opens and the next room is illuminated with shimmering aqua blue light.  Along the walls are painted to depict people drinking mystic water, discarding their withered skin and emerging young and beautiful.  If you go through the path of riches, the door opens and the next room is illuminated with shimmering golden light behind the walls where of gold and other treasures are visible.  If you go through the path of future, the door opens and the ride vehicle tilts upward, directing passengers’ eyes away from the dark wall paintings, and towards the dazzling star field. The Hall of Promise is dimly lit in purple and the ceiling above twinkles with 5,000 fiber optic stars.  At the end of these rooms, a huge golden Mara idol appears, and his eyes begin to smoke, as he exclaims one of these three: “Foolish mortals! You looked into my eyes. Your path now leads to the Gates of Doom!”, “Infidels! You looked into my eyes. Your path now leads to the Gates of Doom!”, or “No! You looked into my eyes. Your destiny now lies beyond the Gates of Doom!”The vehicle then turns up a corridor to reveal Indy holding a door closed that appears to be giving off green and blue lights, as he tells you which way to go.  Finally, the vehicle emerges into the main corridor, which contains a lava bed bellow.  Another vehicle can be seen crossing a rickety rope bridge over the lava bed, and across is a giant stone Mara that shoots flames and green beams out of its eyes.  The car races past a wall of catacombs in which air blows causing mummies and skeletons come falling out towards the vehicle.  You then enter a long dark hallway, wear, when the lights of the vehicle is shined on the wall, beetles are seen to be crawling around, as air is shot at your legs to make it seem as if they are crawling on you.  You emerge from the darkness and cross the rickety rope bridge as mentioned before, and enters an area known as the snake temple, where multiple snakes are painted on the wall, and a large cobra, is passed as it strikes down at the vehicle.  You then swoop down, passing up close to the lava bed and into an area with hanging tree roots, where rats can be seen running across.  You pass through a projected tree root with rats on it and into the dart room.  Here, spear wielding warrior painting adorn the walls, and have blow guns in their mouths that blow air at you while making a sound of crashing darts.  Finally the ride reaches its climactic point.  Indy is seen holding on to a rope dangling above you.  As you are about to let him into your vehicle, a giant bolder comes rolling at you, so you quickly dive down, to hear a thud.  After all hope is lost of Indy’s survival, you turn the corner to see him standing safely next to the bolder exclaiming any of these phrases: “Not bad, for tourists!”, “There! That wasn’t so bad, was it?”, “Next time, you’re on your own.”, “Next time, you wear blindfolds, okay?”, “Don’t tell me that wasn’t big fun!” or “Tourists, why’d it have to be tourists?”  The ride is then completed as you exit the next temple to find your next adventure.
